Ich break out

I've been really fortunate to date. No ich until today, and it's obviously on all the fish. I have a hospital tank up and running but I can't catch the fish by net and there's just way with too many hiding places for them to run to. It's a reef tank and all my corals are finally doing awesome. I'm really reticent about pulling all the rock and corals to get at the fish so I'm thinking fish trap??
Anyone have a fish trap I can buy build or borrow? Any other alternatives?

Try the 6 weeks of medicated food. Has worked for a couple people on here. Involves metro, selcon and focus mixed in food.

I did, I didn't think it through and should have isolated him first. I've never had an issue before so I thought my luck would hold and it didn't.

Good luck, I just went through the 2 day headache of getting all my fish out. I must say the fish trap is a must (sadly I can't disclose where I borrowed mine from) but ultimately I had to tear apart part of my rockwork to get the last few. I was able to isolate the fish on one side of the tank with eggcrate/mesh and just took the rockwork out on that one side and netted the fish. I turned off the powerheads and put a little food on the far side of the tank, when the fish swam to that side I slipped the divider in. I also tried a mirror instead of food to attract the fish and that worked for some as well. Best of luck.

Vitamin C at 50-100ppm.

Please be careful telling people to dose that high of a carbon source without explaining the side effects of such a high dose or that you need to work up to it. If one was to just go and dose 50-100ppm of VC in their tank it would probably crash due to oxygen levels. I can't get my tank to accept more then 10ppm without a bacteria bloom, I can't imagine what 100ppm would do to it.

I assumed the OP would ask how to do this & not drop a bunch of VC pills in there. I have eradicated crypt in this way.

:tsk: OP has probably already dumped an entire container of tang..."vit C" pshhh...C + Windex can probably cure cancer at this rate.

I am not saying to stop advocating what you believe works, just to provide more information (perhaps a url) so as to prevent people from blindly following in their desperation to save their animals and as a result killing their animals with the VC.

I would like to see you throw a Blue Hippo Tang in your tank (haven't seen your tank, so I don't know if you have one) that is ich free and stress it out and see whether your tank is actually ich free or that your fish are just very healthy and have kept the ich at bay. There also appears to be some anecdotal evidence that fish can become immune to ich after some exposure. I am not saying I don't believe you, but I think it would be an interesting experiment to try.

I did place a purple tang directly into my tank, where I regularly dose VC at 23ppm. It had HLLE. It was totally gone/healed in a month. The LFS knew I used VC & gave me the fish at a greatly discounted price, because they knew I could treat it.

You can still see the scars, here:

+1 medicated food, fed to all fish, might have to do 2mths worth depending on wherein the lifecycle you start. worked for me in a full reef. Poidog (eric) had a thread explaining amounts of each (metro, focus, etc), aquapros should have it all as well as reefwise.

Just in case you'd missed it, there was another ich (crypto!) - thread that was going on the last few days where people went over some of the different ideas out there as well. Seems last week was a bad week for tank diseases... Anyhow, good luck with your treatment!

No ginger..hadnt ever heard of that..but the frozen food soaked in garlic along with metro and selcon seems to be clearing them up pretty good. The purple tang is taking a bit longer, but everyone else looking alot better. I pulled that black clown fish and is being treated in a hospital tank. That really seemed to settle everyone down, alot less stressed. Anyone want to make me an offer on that clown!?! :)
