Back up equipment

I'm not exaggerating, almost everything except a spare tank. If it's critical, having a spare will take most of the stress out. Spare pumps or enough rebuild parts to make them new again for all return and circulation pumps, spare dosing pump, spare air pumps, spare parts for Apex, plumbing parts, heaters, ato to list the big items. Things like spare reactors, screen top mesh, test kits, saltwater mixing pumps, aren’t critical but make it easier when problems creep up.

I have a back up for everything right now, except lights, which I should also go get.

+1 to both guys. I have backup everything as well. Even lights. I don't ever want to be caught with my pants down

I have a spare return pump, and I'm running a backup heater on my RKL. I generally have spare powerheads laying around too. I should however probably buy a spare return pump for my biocube.

Otherwise I don't have any backup lights, I wish I did but I just can't afford the upfront cost. I do however have a backup controller for my IT-2040 lights, so I'd definitely try that first.

Big one on my list is a generator. Even out the hobby I still have it. Equipment goes bad but Ive seen more outages than my gear going bad. Plus with a pond in the back, worth every penny.

I have battery back up for mp10 and radion...an extra led fixture, return pump, heater, circulation pumps, fresh and saltwater.

I live close to Coral Compulsion so I don't worry about back up lights. lol I have extra power heads if the need ever comes up. I also have some extra heaters. I don't really worry about power outages I've been in this area for almost 20 years and the longest power outage I remember was for about three hours. I do have a few battery powered air pumps just in case. I figure I could always heat up water on the stove in a real emergency.

I have a battery back up, but invested in a whole home gen system a year ago and only had to use it 1 time

i have no backup equipment. This thread is making me want to get some backups.

I think at the minimum you should have an extra heater and power head. A battery powered air pump too maybe. None if it would be expensive and just a good idea to have.

I have back up skimmer and led chips but thats about it. I guess i figute if my main pump goes out power heads will keep stuff alive till i get a pump at a lfs. Or vise versa. Heater well if reef goes out then i will steal from fowlr. Really only thing i wish i had was a generator. I do have power converter so worse cums to worse i can turn truck on and tun a pump for power outage . But a generator would be nice.

You can get the cheapo generators for less than $100 in some places. We use em at work they are China Honda gx200 clones so any honda part will work on it and the way we beat the hell out of the ones at work they are pretty reliable. I had my boss pick me up one on his last order he buys em groups of 10 we run em over with the machines before they actually stop starting on us. We use em daily at least 4-5 hours a day just change the oill every few weeks and all is well.

I have the gennie, heaters, pumps, lights plus more for backup.

Can you post details on this generator. Watts, web Link, etc. if we need to buy 10 to get a killer deal maybe a GB is in order at 100 bucks a pop.

They are the same as these. http://www.ebay.com/ctg/All-Power-America-APG3012-3250-Watt-6-5-HP-Generator-/77277939 there are probably 50 companies re branding them and selling em under different names.

6.5hp if you look on craigslist you can find em cheap they sell new for under $200 usually and if you contact the manufacture in china you can get way better deal if you buy in bulk.
