Some thing killing my turbo snails

It seems like something is killing off my turbo snails

I have
Flame angel
Flame hawk
2 clowns
1 peppermint shrimp
One pearly jaw fish
And one mandarin
One cleaner shrimp

I am seeing empty turbo snail shells these days and I see cleaner shrimp eating snails

But can a cleaner shrimp kill turbo snails ? These are v.big turbos

I used to have like 8 or so and now I see only 3 I guess

Who might be the culprit ... I don't see any one else eating or bothering them :(

I havent heard cleaner shrimps do that.. not unless the snails are already dead.. probably not enough algea in ur tank.. try attach nori to a clip to supplement feeding

I'd blame the flame hawk. Try feeding more, or a wider variety of foods to see if that helps. Your snails "could" be starving to death on their own and being "cleaned" after dead. Could be no one to blame in the tank.

No crabs? It seems like I am always having a crab/snail war in my tank. Kinda like the werewolves and the vampires of the saltwater world!

How big was your tank again?
It is usually good to have one turbo snail per 30 gallons, and this is assuming you have enough liverock/algae for them to eat. If you have little liverock, it doesnt matter how many gallons you have (although they do eat off the glass). Some of the larger ones would be one per 35-40 gallons.

If you have 8, you should have a 250-300 gallon or more tank with plenty of liverock for them to graze on. If you don't, you likely didnt do proper research, and you starved them to death.

I've never had luck with my turbos either... They're clumsy too, if they flip over behind the rocks, there's no way i can get to them.

I've had great luck with the big turbo's

Could be your flame hawk or not enough food like Greg said. But if it was the hawk you would see other inverts dead besides just turbo snails.

Was referring to this post for the food part.

I have 3 in my tank and one day mr electric blue legged crab was trying to dig him one out. The next day he had double the size of his shell. nothing else picks at them.

well the oldtown aquarium guys asked me to get 8 for my 29 biocube and i got 4 and later on i got some turbos and astreas from another reefer on here ..

is it true that one turbo suffices (or needs 30 gallons ?? )

now after everyone mentioned about not having food.. i just looked at my tank and not one spot is green .. also i counted again and i found 4 of 8 .. and 3 empty shells ..

im guessing its the food thing ..

my hawk never touches any of them .. even peppermint shrimp are just fine .. :)

Research is your friend! Google.com
The large turbos need a lot of food. I couldnt even imagine having more than 3 in my 120g display (150 total). My rocks are spotless with only 3. Had a bit of hair algae when starting up but they ate it all. Im debating giving one away and just having 2. Mine are about 3/4 of a golfball size.

had a Eunice worm was about 3 ft long when I pulled it out ate all my ricks and snails also took out my 4 pearleys and two blue spot jaws so if ur jaw fish disapers next u know what to look for

nope i dont think so .. i inspected each and every rock and i actually changed my layout like 15 times over the last 3 months and never had anything stray .. i had a rock crab that i was told dangerous but pulled it out and killed it .. now all the rock and tank is supeer clean .. :)
