It's been an eventful year and alot of growth for both of us, afew highlights include:

-Dec. 2011: Became a Certified Single-Purpose Team: Explosive Detection (14 types of explosives)
-March 2012: Assisted Local & Federal Agencies during N.A.T.O.
-Aug. 2012: Participated in the National K9 Olympics finishing 12th in "Overal Explosive Detector Dog"
-Re-Certified in Explosive Detection
-Became a Certified Team in Patrol/Criminal Apprehension aka a Duel-Purpose Team (Detection & Patrol)
-Trained in Article Searches (Human scent)
-Assisted Local Departments with School Searches & public K9 Demo's
-On standby/Pre-Deployment for Hurricane Sandy
-Set for short-term deployment to NC in Feb. (was also suppose to deploy to NC for the Democratic Naitonal Convention but my partner went instead)

Pedro is 2 1/2 yrs - will be 3yr in Feb.

Imported from Hungary... commands in Czech... Mexican name... was suppose to be a military dog in Afghanistan... lives in America... With a Polish handler... and spins in circles (but only clockwise) because he's so confused about his heritage!

Thats is funny, ours came from a lineage of military police dogs. Congrats on the anniversary. Ours starts to herd around the house when I get her excited, and she totally destroys are bed after my wife makes it, Wants to lay on the sheets so she throws all the pillow and covers off. Its hilarious.

Hey Dan. Great looking dog. Where do they have u guys work? I know it's a private security company, but do u guys ever assist law enforcement? I'm just curious bc I've worked with several law enforcement K9 handlers and I've run across the fair share of horrible dogs. Urs looks like it gets more training then some of the police dogs we work with. Just asking bc I work in narcotics for CPD and was very curious.

Beautiful dog congrats. And for everyone at the bbq tomorrow sont bring drugs he might get u lol

Thanks Jorge, Yes we do A LOT of training - Dog/Team is only as good as their training. We train with the K9s at Great Lakes Navel base a few times a month and we also have a PD K9 Training Group that we train w/ every other Tuesday (about 8-12 teams, Warrenville, Wood Dale, Elmhurst, Boilingbrook, Arlington Hts, etc), used to do some training w/ Chicago Metra K9 but....well.... haha

All of our Dogs come from VLK (Vohne Liche Kennels) which is one of the best K-9 Training Academy in the world.

Our company has K-9 Teams in Miami, Dallas, San Fran, LA, had a team in Baltimore, and Chicago. Every other team is in mall so PR and a social K-9 is a must. Hence one reason why Pedro is so friendly (though he's got a mean side lol), actually had Pedro at Dre's house playing in the backyard with the kids. I on the other hand (and my partner 1 day a week) work are located in a Corporate Office Building; 71 S. Wacker (Hyatt Center), checking just about everything that enters the building (every truck through the dock and their contents, contractors, mail, packages, etc). We are currently in the process of working on getting several other Chicago K9 spots.

If you ever come across a company that needs Patrol K9s or Explosive Detection, feel free to toss us out there: IPC International (Corporate Office in Bannockburn). Yes, there are several other very poor Private K9 Agencies in Chicago, we pride ourselves as being an "elite" team.

Ok then I have seen ur company b4. It's pretty sad (on law enforcement's part) that private companies get more training... But I guess that's the way the corporate vs city budgets go.

Good luck man. Sounds like a fun job. Lol too much politics with law enforcement K9 in all departments.

I think my brother's dog is one of the bad ones... He's dumber than a box of rocks, has horrible allergies, doesn't get the training he needs, etc. he is a k9 police officer, i won't say where though. Unfortunately my brother can't afford to change departments, as they don't do lateral movement anymore, so he'd have to start at the bottom, again.

How did you get your job? Were you former police or military? Or is it a job you can get "off the street"? It interests me tremendously, but not so much traditional police work... Curious if i could make the career change without any law enforcement experience...

Lol I don't believe in bad dogs. There are bad owners/trainers. Not saying ur brother is bad... He's limited to department training unless he pays out of pocket which is extremely expensive. I can tell u one thing. When I need a k9 for our searches... I have one guy which happens to be my neighbor (coincedence) that is on his 2nd phenomenal dog. If he's not available. I might as well start sniffing myself. Lol

Don't know how Dan got his job, but military or police work has nothing to so with k9 handling. No offense Dan... But the dog does all the work. It's the handlers job to provide him with the tools.. But after that.. Dogs do what dogs do best. I wanted to be a K9 guy when I first got on CPD, then I soon found out its not what u know its who u know in Cpd and most departments. Dan I think Pedro is a beautiful dog... And if I got the opportunity in Chicago to do it (doubtful) I would pay out of pocket to train my own dog.

That's pretty much what it comes down to, the department... I told him almost from the time he got the job, to find a different department. Too much political crap and favoritism. I won't get into stories about the dog, because i don't want him to get in trouble somehow...
