10gallon tank?

Hey all! Awesome i found a forum for Chicago-ans....though im in the suburbs..

Anyways Ive got my 10gallon reef tank up to a start as i just brought home a dual stalk xenia frag (2 frags for the price of one basically).

Just have a small coral banded shrimp, a kinda mocha clownfish, and some blue leg hermits with a blue tuxedo urchin.

been going for about 2 months (cycle was only 3 weeks due to the awesome live rock i found!)

Anyways... ill soon be uping the tank to my 35gallon acrylic tank that should arrive on the 7th! Question is...

How hard are nems to care for? Is it just water conditions that kills them? or lighting? feeding? or a combo of all three?

Looking for a small one to possibly keep in my 10g and then move to the 35 once its ready. I have a 4x18watt t5 HO fixture on top of the 10g and will be going with DIY GU10's for my 35g (easy to get into higher lighting then).

Any species that comes to mind that might host my clown? Thanks!

I'd wait at least 5-6 months of stable water conditions before you introduce any kind of nems in your tank. Your 4x18w t5ho should keep a nem fine. With the size limitation of a 10g and 35g... I'd stick with a small-medium sized Bubble tip anemone. Your clown SHOULD host it, every clown is different. there's no garentee of the anemone hosting the clownfish. BTA's are super easy to care for. Most don't feed their bubble tips. There's really no other host anemones that would fit in a 35gal comfortably.

Just run carbon 24/7 with nems in case of any chemical warefare

Let me add that tank raised clowns are more of a pain to get into a nem. Sometimes they won't even come near the stuff. Hopefully yours do whether you get tank raised or wild caught.

Someone has a post about using cool whip container. Check it out. And good luck with all your future adventures!

Hey thanks folks! Getting the tank on Tues so ill start a build thread....thinking of doing DIY gu10 leds to get some kicking lighting going.

oh also, since the params are great ill be giving a little mini maxi nem a try tomorrow since its 40%off! its a tiny bit bigger than a quarter and bright red with a blue center
