180 gallon saltwater predator tank transfer in 2 days.

i posted this because i wanted to see what you guys thought about that. The story is that my uncle bought a tank off one of his friends, its a 180 gallon reef ready, he couldn't take care of it any more so he sold it for $500. It came with 200 lbs of live rock, 200 lbs of sand, stand, canopy, sump, protein skimmer, one of the biggest Emperor angel I have ever seen, online and in real life. also huge snowflake eel, tang and grouper. My 2 uncles and I, they helped but not as much as i did lol. it all started saturday morning around 6 am, my uncle lives in romeoville so he had to pick me up all the way in oak lawn. we got there and the tank was so not taken care of. he never cleaned the tank and he had it for 5 years. he just got bored of it and he stopped doing anything so my other uncle would help him out by doing water change sand feeding them. i emptied the water for the tank first, then took fish out, the rock, then the sand. we had to go rent a huge truck, cus we had so much stuff. after i took off all the equipment, everything was covered in 5 years of salt creed. so then we took everything to his house and put the tank together. i then had to scrub every rock because of so much hair algae, while my uncles rinsed out the sand, ohh ya, we where doing this all at 10 at night. we also had to scrub down the tank filtration, overflows and al the hoses. i then had my younger cousin help me pass rock so i can aquascape. the we filled back up with water and lift the fish in the buckets overnight.

The we set up all the pumps and sump, and guess wat, a leak. my uncle and i were freaked out, cus the water leaked down to the basement. i figured out it was the bulkhead and tried to epoxy, but that didn't work, so we drained the overflow and added the fish, they where acclimated awsome and now are super healthy. monday cam and i had to go to school so i had to wake up extra early to go home and change. after i just started working at petco so it was my second day. i came out at 9 pm and went straight to my uncles house to fix, we sprayed the leak we the flex seal product that they sell on tv, and that didn't work. so i slept over and had to come to school in the morning again, like at 6 am. after i went straight to his house again to replace the bulkhead. then the return pump isn't working, so now we have to replace again. so now we are waiting for the pump to come in. also my school schedule is crazy cus i scuba dive and have to swim a 500 every day, plus i run 3 miles a day plus arm work out. i just had to let this off my mind, (thank you for lessoning) Pictures soon.

Dude, you've been busy...Sounds like you're handling everything well. I Look forward to seeing this beautiful tank and huge fish. :)

That sucks! You guys have probably spent more time/effort/money than what the tank sold for. I always buy brand new bulk heads when buying a used tank, because I've had the same thing happen to me before. Then of course those old, not taken cared of equipments start to fail and you spend hundreds of dollars replacing them! Almost better off buying a new set up.

I hope that everything works out for the best! Post some pics, I know you're busy but pics do help.

Keep up the good work. I hope you got a pic before you took the tank apart. I love looking back and saying this is how it looked before and now it looks like this.

Way to stick with it! I miss scuba diving. Anyway, perhaps the leak was an absent or worn out rubber ring/washer. Always have to remember that. Also, if you don't mind my saying, I find it beneficial to check out the forums for the stuff people are selling, such as a pump. You can save a ton of money buying used and you can trust pretty much everyone. Remember, most of these reef geeks upgrade instead of downgrade, leaving much useable equipment for the starting geek.

It's just like working on an old car that runs ok. You start fixing things on one end and breaking things on the other. Do a brake job and it won't start anymore. Good luck man. Can't wait to see that emperor.
