24 hr fuge lighting

I currently am using a clamp silver lamp with a screw in florescent bykb. One of the corkscrew looking ones. Just a standard house one. Anyway it grows chaeto awesome. But I have been running it 24hr a day. Is that ok. I run my tank light 12hr and my frag tank 6 hr. I have heard it's good to run the fuge light on a reverse cycle to ur main lighting to keep pH stable. Anyone else know anything about this. And is it going to hurt th chaeto to run the light that long. Well always on. Caue it really grows the chaeto. Thanks

On my DT I keep the light on 24-7 and cheato grows crazy.. My frag tank is opposite as it turns on when DT lights are off..

One thing I did notice was the cheato color was more green in the frag tank vs the DT..

But on PH the fuge light does help alot at night when lights are off..

Hope that helps

I used to run a 23w 6500k bulb on my chaeto for 24 hrs until the chaeto started flowering, I knew that probably wasn't going to be a good thing.

I just assumed it would be bad. Not sure if it is or not. I just do not want it to pollinate and spread to the dt. Being precautionary I think at best.

I was doing 24/7 but now only at night.. green algae was growing way to fast in my sump...

Ive always ran my fuge light for 24 hours without issue.

On a side note, I've heard that when chaeto spawns you end up with a real mess.

yeah im sticking witht he 24/7. hoping to find a nice big hob that will alow me to mod my sump some thanks everybody

If u run 24/7 be careful of cyano.. you might have to run a powerhead in the sump to keep water moving with all that light. I run mine opposite DT

better to run it on opposite schedules, unless you're trying to lower unusually high nitrates and phosphates.

Why? I tried both methods and found leaving the light on 24/7 to be the better option. And regarding cyano, I flow about 800gph thru my sump and circulate some flow with my GFO/carbon reactor system using a tee to divert some of the flow before it enters the canisters.

Yeah I just cleaned out most over the rubble because it was building up a lot crap in it. Now there is jsut a little bit of rubble. I also put a power head in there for circulation. But just run it once in a while. If not it gets clogged with chaeto. Also I just added about 15 hermits to it. Will they get stressed with a 24/7 light schedule

Spoke to my shrink today, he said the hermits dont like 24 hours of light... JK
I would take the hermits out if its a fuge, they will tear up the place.
Whats your gph running thru your fuge now? if its not just crazy slow, i would take the powerhead out, and just watch nature take its course in the fuge dont add fish, crabs or snails.

I tried running a cfl flood with a clamp on reflector and it didn't work for chaeto so I decided to give up for awhile.

Has anyone had any luck with a LED bulb equivalent and if so, what?
