75Gal: Mp40 Placement questions...

Hey guys,

Basically, I've been on the market for a proper wave maker and today, a ridiculous deal popped up on CL and I was lucky enough to snatch it up.

Anyway, I'm wondering which side of my tank I should put it on to be optimum for my SPS and what % power to run it on...

Here's my tank layout... not recent but my lights are off now. Basically all my SPS are on the Right side of the tank.

Anyway, the sps are all the right side and I'm spending the money on a wavemaker like the vortech in order to create random flow to try and get better polyp extension as I'm only running 2 Koralia's right now... I'm wondering if I should put the MP40 on the right side of the tank with the SPS or on the Left side and have the mp40 blow towards the right to the SPS island?

Input will be appreciated.

Thanks
Eric

put the 40 on the side with the sps, you may have to move some of the slower water loving corals right under the pump. its the only calm spot... youll findthat the side without a mp40 has pretty steady flow in 1 direction, but 3/4 of your tank will have awesome random flow. GRATS ON THE DEAL!

Def go right side (side of SPS) and go as high (power wise) as you can. Also go about 6 inches from you water line (placement)... i have an mp-10 in my 55 thats gota piece of SPS right next to it and the polyp extension is insane...thats just my 2 cents

hmm... some of my SPS is pretty close to the side wall though, like 4-5 inches away... U think that would be ok still? All my softies are on the left side of the tank... And thanks! I'm pretty stoked for it

And ok, that was gonna be my next question. because i don't want to make splashes out of my tank. haha. I hope my rockwork doesn't fall either with the higher flow

Nice on the move to vortech, you'll love it. If that's a 4' tank you'll probably want another one for the other side. In the meantime, place it on the side with the SPS like the others said.

Your rock shouldn't fall but get ready to glue down those frags lol

Sweet! it is a 4 foot 75gal.

And ok, guess i know which side it's gonna be going on now! And ya, I wanna get one down the road eventually, but leaning towards a mp10 for the slave since i do have a mixed reef and my whole left side is BTA's and softies pretty much...

i have nems tentacles almost touching the teeth on the pump, so your sps shud be fine. as long as they are not directly in front of it they will thrive. for vertical placement, if you have sand you want it high, otherwise you can go anywhere. if you do have sand i would put the side of the pump where the teeth are molded into 1 thick chunk pointing down. point it down for more surface agitation. i was thinking bout putting 1 really low and another up high, but i never tried it, got too much stuff hanging around on the glass. rocks should be fine unless they teeter around when your turkey bastering them....

Interesting, ok... I do have sand. I'll have to keep an eye on things and make sure it doesn't stir up too much.

id suggest getting those lil sticky things that hold up the pumps, i didnt have them for the first year. so much peace of mind..... best 3$ ever lul. some foam covers wouldnt be a bad idea either, especially when you buy a new nem, worth their weight in gold.

what do u mean the little sticky things?

and ya, i may buy the foam if my bta's decide to move. but they're on the other side of the tank

Ya, I got it used. I'll order those along with a new wetside and a rubber gaskets. Thanks! I got it used. 180 bucks but the wetside is rattling. I'm picking it up tomorrow. Still a good deal for a gen2 mp40w

yea it is, ive had 2 wetsides go out, but i think they only have 1 part that breaks, ususally at least, the lil white bearing.
