I'm really not confident at all with plumbing this thing and hope that my success and/or failure in documenting it will help someone like me who googled the hell out of "plumbing a reef tank"

I have an Eheiem 1260 on order and a JNS CO-1 skimmer on its way... wanted the aquamax CO-1 skimmer that's sold out everywhere until I found that the JNS is the same without the brand. I hope you enjoy... been lurking this forum for years, I hope to start finally contributing.

Any tips you folks can give me in regards to plumbing would be appreciated...

Tony

congrats on taking the plunge ! feel free to ask theres plenty of people here good with plumbing and prob a few locals near by to lend a hand if need be .

Thanks for your reply lunacris... quick question to all, should I prime/glue the cepex valve and unions to the pvc or leave it as is, screwed on?

The what to the who with the thing thats goes to the other thing .but not that thing. Thats why i use hoses lol

Easy way is with hoses. I have a 65g with an eheim and used hoses with barbed fittings. Also had a corner overflow and used the 2 holes as drains and over the back for the return. Herbie method. Used a ball valve and a gated one too. I am no expert, but there are a few guys on here that know there stuff.

Okay, update time, hoping these so called "plumbing experts" reply and add their two cents...
This is the only "glued/cemented" part so far. The overflow to the Proflex Sump 3 on the left and the PVC to the return pump. Again, only things glued are the pvc pipes in the bulkheads until I'm ready/satisfied with this build, see below...

Proflex, with a very nice BUT VERY annoying tube to work with...

The return is connected to a cepex valve... never knew what they were, but I'm thinking this is by far my best purchase, connected to an ehiem 1260... You can see that I modified the return with a slip that fits a 1" pvc pipe. What you can't see is the elbow on the front that is a 3/4th threaded... hoping this picks up water from the bottom, bubble free maybe?

Overall pic pretty much shows my frustration, that damn tube from the proflex... Can't figure out how to make it better than this.

Any ideas you folks have before I glue it would be appreciated.

Also, let me know if this is a helpful post I should continue to update...

Looking good. I have a 75g with the Proflex model 4 sump underneath. Been working good, although the filter socks do get annoying after awhile. Can't wait to see more progress.

icedeaarth15324, would you mind showing me a pic of your proflex, especially if you are using it as a fuge? I agree about the socks, bought a second pair so I can clean out the old and insert the new every couple of weeks. Hoping to have it plumbed this weekend with pix posted and get it wet by next week.

I am not running my sump as a fuge. And I have about 15 filter socks because they overflow after about a week in my tank. I'll see if I can get a picture though.
