My brother is having an issue with this in his tank and we cannot figure out how to get rid of it. Does anyone know what this is out how to get rid of it?

how old is the tank ?

some rock really really LEACHES phosphate to the extent of that much algae :)
 
it was brand new dry rock. he has been running gfo, carbon and a turf scrubber since day one when he started the tank to try and prevent build up in the live rock/sand

thought so .. dry rock depending on which type it is has to run thru leaching the phosphates .. there is no way to control it ..

other than acid washing or curing the rock prior to putting it in the tank :)
 
thanks. I was thinking that could be possible but I assumed hair algae would have shown up. I've never seen something like this algae before.
