Alveopora

I don't know what it is, but alveopora do not like my tank. I can keep almost any type of coral. I have SPS growing like crazy. I have LPS thriving as well. For some da*m reason I cannot keep alveopora. I just transferred it to my nano hoping it comes back out fully. Here's a pic of it today after transferring last night. It already looked like this prior to transferring.

Supposedly they are tougher to keep. Atm, I have some goni doing well, but I hear goni is easier than the alvies. Gluck Bro!!

I've had mine for several months and they have now done really well. Initially, any of these guys I bought would die and the 3 I have now have been going strong for several months now. In my experience, they like nutrient rich waters that are a bit turbulent. I now keep mine in the same area where my acans, blastos and palys are. In that area, all the detritus collects and is the dirtiest area of my tank. These guys do not like super clean SPS water. They come from nutrient rich shallow turbulent lagoons.

Don't feel too bad. A lot of wild aleveopora and goniopora do not do well in aquariums, and die a couple months after purchase.
Personally, I dont think we should be importing these corals because they do so poorly in most systems.

You need a completely established tank, which judging by the picture you do not have. I would not try this coral personally. THey seem to dislike the superclean waters acros love.

Yah, its a tough coral.
Personally I dont recommend them. Even in an established system they can slowly die.
They look great as soon as lfs get them in, but unfortunately their health degrades quickly.

I always told people they werent easy to keep, but almost everyone bought them anyway. There are many success stories out there, but unfortunately a ton more failures.

Well, thanks man. Now I don't feel as bad. I shoulda hit you up sooner.

I had a really nice branching one that did great for about a year. Then each branch died off until it was gone...

I'm a big Gornipora fan and I have about 3 or 4 in my system now... I have yet to try Avelopora knowing the are tough to keep, but in my experience with them of you can keep the gorni's alive you should be able to keep the avelo's alive

I always thought goni's were harder to keep than Alveopora?

The other way around... ORA has reared the Red Goniporas for a few years and they have become quit hardy and easy to care for. Keep your water a little on the dirty side basically. Avelo's are a little tougher for some reasons. They require the same water quality but need to be target feed daily or every other from reading on other forums. I have been using Gornipower by Two Little Fishes along with Julians Thing to target feed. I am sure I can do the same with the Alevoporas if I were to put them in my system.
