Anyone have this problem

I recently purchased a brs deluxe reactor to run gfo in. I set it the way it said to but no matter how fast or slow I put flow through it, it still rises to the top and doesn't come back down. Can I be doing something wrong or is there a trick to stop this?

Not familiar with brs, but tlf have valve to control flow. The sponge on top doesn't hold down the gfo. You probably pumping too much. I run a mj900 on mine and it is turned down.

It came with a cobalt MJ-1200. It's not floating because if I turn the pump off it falls but I slightest flow bring it up. Was the sponge suppose to go in the top or bottom, it didn't say to though.

on the gfo, from what I remember, the instructions say no sponge should be used, only with the carbon, or if you mix the two.

Just went to brs site and had video of reactor. In the video they state to use the pads to hold down the media. Not sure which media. Didn't really pay attention, but if you go there it should be explained or go to youtube.

Its always good to use one of the sponge up top so your media doesnt end up in the tank/sump, especially when you arent a pro at using it yet. Without the sponge your media would have ended up in the tank :)

The BRS reactors come with valves, atleast the deluxe ones that I use. Dial down the valve so the GFO is just tumbling.

The flow depends on whats enough to tumble the GFO. Then the older the GFO, the more they get weighted down and stick to each other. So as the GFO ages, you have to adjust flow to keep it tumbling.
