anyone using Reef keeper?

I like my Apex...it is the only one i have ever had and love everything about it. pretty much everything I need it to do for now and lot's of room for exspansion later. The alerts and controlabilitie are priceless for me. I can monitor and control my system for my phone.... that is awesome. Just my opinion and experience.

I have been looking for reef keeper or Apex. I think going the reef keeper. Likes or dislikes

Thanks

I have a Reef Keeper Lite unit, with SL1 + ph probe, ALC, and PC4 modules and itemp probe. got them all from marinedepot.com
they often sell the lite unit + PC4 + SLI1 + ph probe for 230 ish, which is a pretty good deal.

not to mention digital aquatics also gives RKL users the chance to upgrade to a RKE for an extra $250, then they give you $50 back if you send in your old RKL unit. which is something i may find myself doing since i kind want another ALC and another PC4.

Ive also owned an Apex and absolutely loved it. I was able to control everything from the internet when I was visiting my family in California for 2 weeks. It was kind of difficult setting up initially, but eventually you'll get the hang of how the controller works. GL...a controller is definitely a nice piece of equipment to own

I use the reefkeeper lite because it's expandable and easy to use and setup. The internet module is great and expandable for whatever you need. The endless systems like moonlight control help with breeding, The light control is nice to run large Mh systems, Ph probes keep an eye on the acidity/alkalinity in tank, The temp probe and controller is great to keep track of temp and adjusts it.The wavemaker function makes inhabitants more happy and more realistic like there original homes. And the trade in feature if you want to go elite is very nice. The timer system is great to run reactors and can run your calcium reactor to inject co2 to keep it stable. It also can keep the water level up and i like it because all i have to do is feed!

So I have had the RKL with SL1 set up for a few weeks now. It was a pita to set up....and I am still working a few items. I run my skimmer, return and pellet reactor off of it along with my heater and ATO. I like the PH and Temp probes and the functions and alarms. I do not have the net module....and may at some point upgrade to a RKE...we will see. I have not used or seen the Apex controller, but am happy with the RKL.

i have the RKL LV3
2 PC4 BARS
SL1
TEMP
PH
LOVE IT
simple to use setting up was easy for me like 123 done. it controls heater, lights, mjmod in wavemaker mode and return pump.
i have not tried apex yet and don't really plan on it.

I have a reefkeeper plus on my system and love it. Just wish I had the option to upgrade for the Net module. We'll see what happens in time.

I have a Reefkeeper Elite and I love it. I have 2 PC4, NET, and SL1. I wish I didn't have to buy a different module to do salinity monitoring but other than that I am very pleased with the setup and ease of use. I also have my doing an RSS feed to my iPhone using the iReef app for at a glance of system info. I also have all the alerts setup which is nice and has worked for me when I was low on water in the sump!

I am ordering the apex this week. Apex has a lot to offer. I am a iPhone nut and the app for reefkeeper blows.

Thanks guys

I think I like the Apex system better because, from my understanding, it allows you to configure the whole thing from the web. Additionally, it allows complete control of the aquarium from the computer.

The Reefkeeper system will graph stats and send updates, but you can't control.

Is this right?

not really.

using MyReef 2.0 I can control everything on my reefkeeper lite unit with my computer when im plugged into the SID via USB.

now i am unsure if the net module allows for wireless access via myreef 2.0 or not.

I am in looking to get a controller and am on the fence Apex or RK - is there anything else / brand I should consider

I haven't personally used any of them, but Reef Angel seems to have some great options.

I have both RKL & RKE on my tanks, for the extra cost up front, the RKE is soooo much easier to navigate and control, and is basically limitless for expansion, while the RKL can only accept up to 4 devices. The RKE also adds a 2nd wavemaker pairing, amongst a slew of other extra features.

The RKL is not that fun to program. For the most part, I find it to be a PIA. I haven't owned any other type of controller so I cant compare them. Persoanlly, I was only looking for a few basic features so I went with it and it has worked fine. I think it is really going to boil down to the feature you want. Dansreef just upgraded from a RKL to an Apex. I know he loves the Apex!
