well im gunna take the plunge and get a controller! my concern is with the internet?does the jr need to be connected to a ethernet constantly or does it go wifi and is that the same for the normal apex jus figured id save $$$$$$$$$$$if i could ? also i know the jr has 4 outlets my lights alone will take up 4 any way to modify this so i can add a heater to it maybe use an adapter for two lights and attach it to the apex? thx

Ultimately you'd have to figure out what you want out of it.
I would go for the normal apex. I'm big into the automation aspects. The jr limits you and your ability to expand. page 10 of this document explains the differences. https://www.neptunesystems.com/downloads/docs/Comprehensive_Reference_Manual.pdf

Plus if you are talking about needing more outlets right off the bat you'll be spending more money for extra modules making the entry cost for the flagship controller seem not so far off.

Both of connect via Ethernet but a wifi gaming adaptor will allow you to be wireless.

Even if you go wireless for the day to day operation of the Apex it is highly recommended, and I found out the hard way that it has to be hard wired to do any updates.

I have had the APEX for few years and with the Fusion website it gives me control from any where in the world at a click of a button.

wow awesome. but do i still need to connect a router to the normal apex to have it be wifi all the time?

I have owned both and without a doubt go for the apex base version versus the Jr. You will end up paying lots more versus what's included with the regular apex. Vdm is already built into the regular apex and right off the bat you can buy two cheap jebao pumps with the cheat $30 apex adapter and have vortech like wave profiles. You "will" upgrade at some, point down the road and you will be all set with the apex base. Apex gold versus regular apex, you save maybe $20-40 buying the gold versus adding salinity, probe etc...regular apex versus Jr. You end up saving a couple hundred bucks. Ymmv

And yes, you need to plug a network cable into any of the apex's....get a wireless adapter, that way you aren't tied to your router location.

Well i found a used one 2yrs old ? $300 go for it?
