Bare Bottom Frag Tank

How many of you use sumpless Frag tanks? All-in-One with the overflow in the same unit to be exact? Have you had any longevity with your corals? pls share your set up. I have a 10 gallon shallow frag tank about 6" deep. I know with these smaller tanks theres more micromanaging involved so I wanted to get an algorithm going for how i should maintain. I only plan to have zoas, softies, shrooms in here.

One more thing. If i were to use the same water from my DT and maybe grab a few rocks. Would this be the best route to avoid a re-cycle spike?View attachment 3007

Awesome tank man... AA does fantastic work. I went Bare Bottom on my 80 Frag Tank and after 3 months I had to add sand because the Phosphate and Nitrate shot through the roof. My maintenance schedule was every 2 weeks so I didn't have enough time to do every other day or weekly. You really have to baby a bare bottom for awhile until your system is stable enough to handle a load. But it's up to you on what you want to do. This was just my experience with a shallow Frag Tank.

I think never BB for me again!!! Yeah, it kept me busy cleaning all the time.. Really didn't like the look and had a hard time trying to keep it balanced IMO. But in this case since you will be doing sumpless, I will add a 1" of sand or more. My frag tank 18x18x8 had a sump with LR

Adding LR and water can help with the new tank syndrome but you might still have a very small spike.. You can add a sponge to your current set-up before setting this frag tank to have the sponge full of life to help the process
