my tank will be here in 4weeks i can't decided which i want here the plan
B.B--- return pump 1200gph + (2) 3/4flow accelerators +1" scwd &2 tunze 6085 ( 2x 2113gph ) the other end will be mp40
D.s.B ---will be 2 mp40 on one side of the tank & return pump other side ( 2500 gph).

Bare bottom is the way to go, if you can provide alot of flow to the bottom to keep detritus suspended for your overflow and skimmer to remove. A good skimmer is also a must. You will be happy with your nitrates and phosphates being low all the time with a barebottom. Crabs will have a hard time moving around, so you will need alot of snails to clean your tank bottom if you don't have good flow down there.

I have a tank with BB and one with sand, honestly I prefer BB for functionality and sand for aesthetics.

I've seen some amazing BB tanks and my OCD tendencies go off the meter when I look at how clean and tidy they are. Anyone who has been to my flat knows how spotless and tidy I keep my home. The japanese take their tanks to another level with their BB setups and the acros in those tanks do so well with the low nutrients.

On the other hand, I love the amount of and diversity of fauna that having sand allows. I feed at will, as my schedule does not allow me to stick to a regular feeding schedule. Because of the biodiversity in my sand and the DSB in my fuge, my tank feeds itself. Plus when I stare at teh tank, I love finding new worms and pods crawling and zippying around. For me it's not just about the fish and coral....it's the whole ecosystem that keeps me engaged and my tv off.

Love your post! I also am up late with a flashlight checking all the tiny critters out. One night, I spotted a corkscrew thingy dashing across the tank & then dove into the rock. Coolest thing I've ever seen in my life! I have an invert ID specialist friend from WWM who told me what it was. (Don't adk me, I don't remember ;)).
