I have a 125 and my fish end up missing for no reason i get a new one and they und up missing. I think I may have a crab or shrimp in the rock.
I have alot of vermetid snails pink tipped anemonies I want to get rid of them. I want to change my crushed coral to sand.
My plan is to remove all the rocks with corals on them and move into a tank i just set up in my basement. fish ,snails, crabs will be moved also. Will be future frag tank.
Then remove all crushed coral scrub tank. Add water with bleach and run tank like this for a few days(want to kill any vermetid snails or other unwanted items i cant get to in the overflows or corners)
Then add a declorinater drain tank let tank dry. then add fresh rock structure with all dry rock then sand that I sell. Then add new ro water and salt.
Then let the Cycle start.

What are your opinions on how to start over with no pests.

I did the same thing Jeff,I took out all my rock and sand and started with new sand and all dry rock,I still want to add ~60lbs(Thursday) then I will be done.if you will be using the same tank,go with a vinegar bath then add sand then rock and kick start a new cycle.

*EDIT* try to only use some of your current liverock in your sump not your display.Just to seed your system.

I was planing on cutting the rocks I want for base rocks flat. Then adding silicone to the flat spot and setting it on wax paper to dry. once the silicone is dry setting the rock with the silicone base onto the glass. This way a sand digging goby or anything that digs cannot make your rock work UNSTABLE and FALL. JMO

It was a lot of work but i made a pvc frame and zip-tied all of my lr to it, it is very stable and all the rocks are removable just in case i need to do maintenance or want to rearrenage. The best part is that there is very little rock touching my sand which = less places for detriment to get trapped.

I had rocks covered in pests & put them outside to cook in the sun for the summer. All nice & white now & ready to sell as dry rock.

Would it work if you placed an egg crate to protect bottom of aquarium, then the rocks on the eggcrate, then pour sand around the rocks, so the rocks aren't on the sand and won't accidentally moved around from sand shifting?
