R ReefDweller Member Apr 11, 2013 #6 They are too effective housing tons of bacteria and then what follows, nitrate. if u keeping reef the average nitrate u wanna shoot for is below 10 considering all levels are within acceptable range other wise u still end up w/ pesky algae.
