I picked up a blue agavie and polip opened for 2 days and has been closed for the last 6 days. I'v been told they are hard to keep and are a shallow water paly that needs some red spectrum in its lighting. anyone else that can give me any advice in keeping them would be great I have t-5 lighting with ati bulbs 1 blue plus 1 purple plus 1 aqua blue and 1 atinic any sudgestions on my bulbs I get great color and growth out of everything else

Thanks

Speckled zoas typically need high lighting otherwise they'll lose the speckles and morph into something bland.
T-5's unless VERY good bulbs probably won't cut it.
Also something might be bothering them. Some nudi's only prefer certain zoas or possibly haven't migrated to others. Maybe they hitchhiked along with the new frag. Any white dots on them when they are closed (eggs)?
Either way you should go purchase some coralRX or get some from a reefer who has some and give them a freshwater dip. It won't kill eggs usually but it will kill adults so make sure to do this again in a week...maybe sooner I'm not sure of gestation periods.
Also, sometimes they just do this. I've had some close for a week then open up for no reason. Usually it's at regular intervals. Eg: every 2 months my Rastas close for 2-3 days

I have 40-50 different zoas/polyps.. its a hit or miss thing regardless .. ill make frags... Some die some live.. wish I could be of more help but its as simple as that.. try more flow.. well its closed you don't want Alger to build on it..

Mike, give them a dip!! I wouldn’t worry if the paly hasn’t lost its size since purchased. Once you see that it’s getting smaller and a develop a brown film, chances are very low for survival.. Always start low when acclimating Z&P to your tank.

Try to avoid placing them on your frag rack for a few days until they adjust. If they open up within the 1st day you are golden

But also keep your eye out for anything weird around the frag!!! Can be a pest that was hidden somewhere and liked this frag..

Keep us updated as this paly is beautiful and not cheap..

Thanks guys I will give it another dip, One thing I was wondering when I recieved the polip it came off the plug and when I reglued it I did get some glue on the base of the polip will that harm the polip, also the polip still looks healthy smooth gray skin no sign of pest Im thinking its the glue around the base I had to glue it there because it detached from the spec of rock it was attached to. Thanks for your help

Glue on the base is not so bad usually unless it's enough so they can't stretch open...didya glue 'em shut? I can see that being a little bit of an issue.

No it was open 2 days after it was reglued just hasn't opened since. Hope I don't loose it, It is a great looking polip when it was open.

Mike.. Like dre said.. I would dip daily until it opened... Zoas are finicky some times... Sometimes mine close.. And days later back to normal

As far as bulbs.. I'm a blue + guy...I have 3b+, 1 actinic, 1 purple and 1 coral +.. Have 2b+,1 purple and actinic on the whole time, the other b+ and coral + come on for 1.5 hrs a day... For growth.
