This is funny. My tank has been cycled for 56 days. I have already been through and done with a brown algae outbreak for the last 21 days or so. Could it be possible it is because I just added another piece of lr? Just wondered.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to new tank syndrome. Your tank will go through many different stages and cycles in the first several months.

The brown is diatoms and they are harmless and will go away in about 30 days. They are feeding off silicates in your new sand. Once the silicates are consumed it will go away.

The red stuff is cyano - a type of bacteria. This comes around due to excessive nutrients (too much feeding) and not enough flow.

try adding two if u can add some mp10 if u can or go with some koralias (they are more cheap and affordable)..

you can try putting chaeto in your tank or adding nassarius snails to sift the sand, but your best bet is to increase the flow. i only get the brown crap in my flow dead zones.

Chaeto is only for phosphate control, which neither one of these issues feeds off phosphate. Nassarius also only eat meaty detritus, they'll shift, but it won't go away.
