Brown Hair algae problem

So i've been battle some brown hair algae in my tank for about two weeks now and it just seems to not want to go away.. All my parameters are good last time i checked them on wednesday everything was normal.. only thing thats wierd is that the brown hair algae seems to be just growing like crazy on my dry live rocks and no where else.. sand is fine and frags are fine and everywhere else around my tank is ok.. its just my dry live rocks that they seem to grow crazy on.. Im running carbon in my tank and siphoning everytime i do my water changes.. I used the dr.timms to speed up my cycle i may have not put enough not sure.. heard that maybe the cause of hair algae too but lmk what advice u guys can give me on how to treat this brown hair algae .. thanks

This is the normal part of New Tank Syndrome. Keep cleaning it out & eventually, it just stops. I wouldn't add any corals until then.

thats what i thought also but.. i used the doctor timms to cycle my tank. which just makes me wonder a little bit.. and its only on my rocks and not on my corals.. i have all of them on the sand bed and they are algae free :wacko (2):

Yea, my tank is about 7 weeks old now, and has the same thing... Brown algae stuff all over the rocks, not on the sand, so it is NTS... It'll go away eventually, already it is getting better and I can see improvement weekly.

Diatoms. Just do regular water changes or If you want to do for example a water change weekly instead of bi weekly that would do the trick as well.

Are u running GFO? Weekly WC and removing HA should help.. Its not a fast process but avoids you using crazy chemicals...

I just fought and won it. Its a normal part of the cycle. I was changing gfo weekly and doing more water changes a week.

None of my rocks are glued and i was fortunate that the ones that had little yards growing i could just take out. I took them out and dipped them in a peroxide solution and it' killed everything.

I would let it go. It's a normal part of the cycle. It's bacteria. Not gonna get better with water changes unless u Suck it out which it will come back. It's just establishing the normal bacteria u will have in ur tank. I'm guessing it's on the dry rock because it's feeding off whatever that rock is leaching into ur water. It will go away. If it isn't hurting ur coral and jsut unsightly. Just let it cycle Imo

Dry rock commonly leaches phosphates. I'd do waterchanges and maybe a bag of gfo. Reducing light cycle, high flow and maybe adding a couple huge turbo snails. You will have to relocate em, but they take care if it for me. I have a little HA going in my rear chambers. I leave it. I figure its eating phosephates. I do 10%-20% water changes every three days.

you can dip those pieces in a peroxide dip...I think 1 part hydrogen peroxide 10 parts water...but its been a while. You might wanna look into that or just let it run its course.

I used to use the peroxide method, but after nearly melting palys I'm a bit apprehensive. It's not gonna do much until you fix the nutrient issue. First thing I'd do is start some gfo. Do you have any brown diatoms?

guys we need to encourage proper cycling lol slow is good with reef tanks. we all have rushed somthing im sure and regreted it later. just let it run. and i always run gfo always. but this is gonna take time to go away and they said they have frags so lights out doesnt sound like an option. this is just my opinion

I have diatoms going with a fully stocked tanked. It natural doesn't mean you rushed or did something wrong. Heck it happens in established tanks as well.

a day or 2 of no lights isnt gonna kill your frags just make them angry but I do completely agree with the patience its easy to look past that
