BRS Eco rox? Opinions.

So with all my past reef builds I went with live Fiji and had great results. This time, to save money and get a different look I went with dry rock. I was drawn to the BRS Ecorox because its Eco friendly, but it seems like its a much slower cycle than just getting LR. I've added a few pieces of LR to my sump and display hoping to seed.

Just wondering if anyone has used this type of rock and had success. Of course a few know it alls have poo poo'd this rock, but I want some varied opinions as I decide whether to start over with LR or let this stuff mature up.

I'm a big fan of dead rock. No hitchhikers. Why pay the extra dough for bacteria when it will come all on its own. As far as coraline, all you need is a small rock that has some and a toothbrush (and some patience). I think you went the best route by adding a little LR to your sump. It will speed up the cycle and keep any hitchhikers out of your DT.

I will never use LR again.

If u want a quik cycle u can always use Dr. Tim's one n only bacteria. I say stay with the dry rock. At least u know u wont have any unwanted pest.

I didnt specifically use BRS dry rock, but started my 75 with dry. It takes a little longer for the coraline to establish itself (if you like it) because as Eric stated you need to seed it and patience for it to grow. No hitchhikers except for the ones I didnt catch when putting in corals. I used bio-spira for the bacteria and a rock from an established system to get it started. I let it go through the normal cycle and now it looks like I purchased "Live Rock"

OH, and I will never use live rock again myself either.

Id let it mature that is the stuff in the tank right?

Yep

My tank is fully cycled, been running for months but the rocks still look like they have diatoms in them here and there. I was battling green hair algae, but I'm winning with awesome water quality now.

Tests say everything is good, 0 phosphates and such, my PH is 8.0 I figure the Ecorox keep the ph there???

Just wondering as this was a new method for me.
