BTA lost half its tentacles

No, I'm not a communist..
I have had a rbta for a coupe months. When i got it it had fairly long tentacles that would stretch out every day. For the last couple weeks, I've noticed that only about half of the nem's tentacles creep out when the lights come on. Then today I noticed that the half of the tentacles that don't come out are now very short nubs. It is up high, hasn't moved at all since I got it and I feed it about every 3 weeks.

Anyone know what happened to the other half of this nem....?

Here's a crappy pic, but you get the idea...

Do you have peppermint shrimp in your tank?

I've heard that they can have an apetite for the stinging cells of nems...

it is hard to see in that pic Eric, but my first guess would be that it is consuming itself...

A bleaching anemone is fairly straightforward in identifying, however, in some species instead of zooxanthellae being reduced and expelled first, they will instead consume their tentacles first. This is a particular problem in Entacmaea Quaricolor and Heteractis Crispa.

It would seem this is happening. I increased the light intensity on my LEDS a couple weeks back. I reduced it a week ago so hopefully he'll stop eating himself.

something similar happened to me with a new rbta . it wasn't used to my t5s/tank plus my clown was hosting it, and was very rough (biting tentacles and snuggling). within a few weeks it had no tentacles(zero). it would also deflate every day.it ended up extending the tentacles after a few days maybe a week later then it split. now both nems are doing great 3years later. so don't worry. it should be fine.

it's not getting any worse so hopefully it will improve. the other 5 bta's are doing just fine so I'm not really sure what set this one off ?!
