Can you have too much skimmer?

My son wants to move from his 10 gallon freshwater tank and try saltwater. he is 9 but has taken good cae of his tank for almost 2 years now so i'm setting him up with a 40b with a 20t sump. i have a eshopps s-150 cone skimmer laying around since i don't have my own tank going right now. it will fit in the 20 gallon tank i bought but is it too much? it's rated for max 150 gallons. our total volume should be around 50 gallons.

p.s. dollar a gallon sale at petco. 40b and 20t for a sump for $60 can't beat it

I think you should get the ASM G4 being sold here.. Would be prefect ;)

You should be fine!!! Most skimmers are over rated anyway's..
