Captive Bred Blue Tangs Now a Reality

That's a major accomplishment, but is it just me, but do those blue tangs look a lil "slow"? I don't know if it's just the picture, or they look different from being captive bred.

What exactly do you mean by slow? They aren't fully developed if that is what you mean. They still have to mature into their fully adult forms. Based on all the reading I did for the yellow tang breeding project, getting them to this form is the hardest part. The important thing is to see what they look like in another month or so.

Plus the first full batches will probably have a lot of HLLE issues like the yellow tangs did.

Yeah, I'm sure they need to develop some more.

That is awesome! Now that we have the blue and yellow tang captive bred, how would that affect ich on this fish. I wonder if they would not get it or be able to fight it as well?

Hopefully after multiple generations the captive bred tangs will be just as hardy as captive bred clownfish. With them never coming into contact with ich in the wild, they won't be able to fight it off as well, but they would be significantly more healthy so that will be able to fight it. It's kind of a catch 22 when it comes to how they would handle ich. However, if you follow proper quarantine procedures, with these tank bred fish, you can literally make it to where they never experience ich in their lives.

It is a catch 22. Hopefully the breed will become hardier and there personality might change as well. I notice a lot of them hide so maybe they will stay out more and not be so skittish.
