Cause Of Excessively Opened Zoas? And "Curling" Zoas?

Sometimes, my zoas overopen and are really curvy on top. Like yolk of an egg when cracked open.

Some other zoas, kind of curl up on top like they are trying to "cover up." Why do zoas not fully open sometimes?

Do you have these experiences? It is due to intense light? What is the cause for zoas not opening all the time?

I find that too much light tends to contribute. Zoas are weird sometimes. I had some red peopleaters do that. They grew new heads and I chopped off and discarded the sickly lookin ones. I'm gonna try coral rx next time.

try putting them all on the sand bed. it could be a number of things causing them to close which includes too much light, pests, water chemistry, etc.

Wouldnt u see a change in more than a few heads if water chem is off? I suspect light or pest. I have not seen this reaction outta z and p with pest. They usually melt or shrink to nothing.

Its probably a mixture of both lights and pests. If you check his previous posts, I think he has been having problems growing zoas for awhile which is probably due to light. With a few melting now, pests are probably involved too.

I was actually just to make a thread about this... My zoas have been doing awesome, but recently, there are a few of them that just barely open and some that don't really open at all anymore... My frogspawn was really close to them before so I thought maybe at night the zoas are getting stung. But I've moved the frogspawn for about 2 weeks now and more are open, but not are all open yet...

I don't think i have any pests because I've had the same zoas for over 6 months now... I can't figure it out. It's been under the same lighting... 2x 250w HQI reef optix pendants with phenoix 14k bulbs. the zoas are sitting in the back wall of the tank and around the middle height of the tank. I'm not quite sure what's going on here...

It just a thought... How about PH spikes? Now that the summer is here we have our windows open all day. They might not tolerate it or have a hard time adjusting. Can this be a problem or is it just me :what:

Not sure about the pH. Could be a possibility. My door is usually open and so are most of the windows and my zoas are fine.

Hmm... after just spending some time staring at my tank after I fed the fish, it seems like it's only one kind of zoas that are doing this... they were the fastest growing too... I'm looking for pics of zoa eating nudis now... i'm hoping they aren't what's bugging the zoas

Also just found this... can astrenia stars really eat zoas? always have had them in my tank... not many but i see them pop up on my glass form time to time...

As far as nudis... They say get a wrasse... will any wrasse eat the nudis? I do have a 6line wrasse.

There was a list I saw somewhere here, not sure what wrasses exactly. If you search google nudi eating wrasses, you will get some results on that.
