Chalice Splitting

Is it common for Chalices to split? I have a MyMilami Chalice that split into to separate frags on its own. Just wondering if this has happened to any of you. Never heard of that happening lol

They shouldn't split on their own. That splitting chalice requires breaking bone and they can't break their own bone.

what might have happened is the Chalice might have suffered tissue loss by receding but started healing again .. then there would be two frag of the chalice automatically made.

the actual coral bone would still be there and if its left like that they would merge back together ..

I was thinking the same thing. Should I just split them up?

What I really want to know is how does someone get a "My Miami chalice "without knowledge of chalices first if that's what it really is? Wouldn't any reefer make two if they had two separate pieces of this .? Are you toying with us to gauge interest in a buyer? You are building a spantacular frag tank from one of your posts .Thread just makes no sense based on all facts posted. Also in another post you claim you bought some Palys for $550.00 for 4 polyps .Please we want to see some full tank shots this has got to be an awesome tank!

whoa. Wth? lol this has nothing to do with my question.

It's on an uneven surface causing it to do weird things . Something may have gotten in the crevice and caused it to die off there then it just healed up again . Sometimes the whole thing can just turn to a skeleton in a day so pretty lucky actually. Has it rimed up complete around both pieces or is there just a split in the rim and center still intact? Hard to tell from pic.

The Bigger piece is starting to Rim up and the smaller piece I cant tell yet. I think im going to take them off this plug and glue them elsewhere.

Large round shaped frag disks work best . I found the chalice forms a nice circular shape even well before it gets to the edge. They dont have to have a rim to trade sell they just need a few days to heal for best success, but in your case it should be healed so cut frag plug in half and your ready to go. In all reallity I recieved chalice frags we cut and just remounted same day but always best to heal in same tank a few days.

They actually rim pretty fast.
