chalice corals spread best on the sand. If you're BB and have a bunch of chalice corals you want spreading you have to get creative. A special thanks to Will Lutman for the on-demand custom acrylic work as always. I had initially thought 3 or 4 magnets would hold it, nope; but gravity is more convenient anyway. I should use acrylic to replace the eggcrate, but this "dog will hunt" for now.

is it really true "chalices grow best on sand" ?? my thought was sand gets disturbed now and then cause of the flow and cucs and stuff but if they are on a flat rock there is nothing for them to disturb and would grow better ..

isnt that right ?

on other hand very creative way and those chalices are HOT

I'm sure you're right in general, but these need to be cut at some point in the near future and since they're all halves already they would be awkward mounted on a larger tile. Once they are mine they're get more permanent homes of course. :)

Nice Nate! How about some close ups of the chalices :p

wasn't happening. the box with sand in it weighs more than anything I have could hold without being scary on the glass (and non-reef safe). Even on two sides along the glass. I have some wicked strong magnets, but i only think they would work if incorporated into a spread area model like this and at that point, why waste the magnets? LOL

Should add four small pillars under them to support it, like a skimmer stand, pretty neat Nate. I like it.
