Chalices

I've never kept chalices before but I'm sorta interested in trying my luck. Anybody have any tips or usefull advice before I dive in? I know they don't require such intense lighting or as much water flow but id like to know what kind of setups are working for your chalices

They don't need much light, some actually do well in shaded areas. They also don't require alot of flow. You will need a nice full spectrum lighting via MH, T5's, or full spectrum LED to apreciate the colors of the more higher end chalices. MCF is selling some cheaper ones, I think hollywood stunner for $10/frag.

I have a 6 bulb t5 set up running a full spectrum of bulbs so I've got that end covered. I've seen people say they've been feeding it so does that means this is a coral that needs to be spot fed kinda like the sun coral?

They are photosynthetic, but spot feeding makes them grow faster. They usually open their mouths and show feeder tentacles at night, but you can train them to open up during the day. looks cool when they are trying to feed.

You should be more than ok with the 6 bulber. I sort of have an addiction to them so I will warn you. For some reason they just get addctive :p I have mine under an 8 bulb setup. You want to start them at the bottom of the tank and if you want to try higher, gradually move it up. I have chalices 5"-6" from the light and they love it but I also have those that hated the high light and will only do well on the bottom. As for feeding, like Nino said you can spot feed them if you'd like but it's not really a necessity. They will most likely feed at night. What I do is feed the tank with a bit of food and micro food early in the morning before lights turn on as everyone in the tank(coral wise) is usually feeding. Just make sure your parameters are ok and you'll be alright.

I love my chalices, but their care can be tricky. I have some that like more flow and others that HATE it. Same with lighting. SOme are ok with higher light but others die from it. They are addictive, as mentioned. Their colors can be stunning...like candy.

Great points here. Yes, very very addictive. The feed best in complete darkness, any light and they don't open up as far, at least for me.

Keeping your parameters stable and calcium and magnesium relatively high will help keep them colored up and happy.
