Cobalt Heaters blowing up!

There has been discussions on the national forums about Cobalt heaters, 150 and 200 watt in particular, that are blowing up in peoples tanks. Some causing livestock deaths. I dont think I've seen it here yet, so just spreading the word. Apparently they are built with plastic components that melt.
I just ordered Eheim heaters and getting rid of my cobalt when they arrive. Not worth it risking tank and my life.

So you want 10 gallon tank and cobalt heater back :)

Mai... I like the avatar.:-) BUT more on topic, I've been running two cobalt 150w heaters in my 90g and a 75w in my 10g and also one in my wife's 16 Nuvo!

My Friday night Drunken viewpoint Is that if they're in an area with good flow you're probably fine... I hope! :-)

I have all my heaters Viva Aqua Titanum, this is my first Cobalt for the 12 gallon (just set up) so hope it ok...Thanks for the info..I feel safe now...:)

I stayed away from Ehiem for a long time, but finally gave in a few months ago when my titanium heater crapped out on me.

I'm going to probably replace my other one with an Ehiem also.

search this thread title on google or reef central:

Cobalt neotherm heater just blew up!!!

I think I will be working on replacing all my Cobalt heaters. this is turning out just like the Marineland stealth heaters that crashed a bunch of tanks.

FWIW, Cobalt has great customer service. And I spoke with the president of Cobalt at the Aquatic Experience. He told me they are awaiting a new shipment of 200 watt heaters.
