So, the wife and I are coffee fanatics, and have found a cheap way to ROAST YOUR OWN BEANS!

All you need are green beans of your choice. We found deansbeans.com. All natural, organic, and fair trade.

$20 for a used, older model hot air popper that rotates the hot air instead of just blowing up, and 7 minutes of roasting, and WAMMY.

I'm sipping on some of the best coffee I've ever had right now...

Happy to share any info too.

Never seen green beans lol. I love coffee too but only when its cold. I'll take an espresso in the morning though.

share more info please. the gf and i love coffee and this might be something we might want to try. We are currently going through a lb of blue mountain coffee but would not mind roasting our own beans.

I did that a few times before. The only problem with the hot air roasters is that they evaporate off any oils from the beans.

Metropolis has green beans listed for a little under $40 for 5 lbs. I know intelligentsia used to offer green beans, but I have little to offer more than that.

We have tons of natural oils on our beans after roasting. Just can't go past 7 minutes after the first pop.

deansbeans.com is where the green beans came from. And costwise it depends on what you get now. If you get folgers, then no, but then you probably wouldn't like this stuff anyway. We were getting Meijer Gold Organic sometimes and some Fair Trade organic Ethiopian from a group buy, and these are about $1 per lb cheaper than those.

The roaster is Toastmaster 6203West Bend Air Crazy. They don't make hot air poppers that spin the air rather than shoot it straight up, which you need.

After you put the green beans in, turn it on. The husks start falling off after about a minute, which is the green stuff. Then you'll start hearing a popping noise. After the first pop, you have about 7 minutes until its as darkly roasted as it can get. That's pretty much it. You just have keep shaking the popper around to get out the husks. And it does smell pretty bad too, cause you're burning off the husks in the process. Then after its done, cool it down by putting it in front of a fan and shake it around to help cool it down quickly, and shake it more to get more husks out. A collander works great. Then let them sit in a looslely sealed container like a ball jar for at least one night. The more nights they sit, the more natural oils will be released.

I need to get some pics of the beans up, cause Eric, these things look like we poured water on them :)

Honest to God the BEST coffee I've ever had. And for anyone that knows me, you know what a powerful statement that is, lol!!
