Coralline algea really begining to annoy me!

Not sure what its saying about the maturity of my tank, but these days I no longer get green algae on my acrylic tank walls...I get coralline!

Which means my old mag float doesn't do diddlysquat to it! I've resorted to using old credit cards or plastic hotel keys to scrape it off.

It's now a weekly chore, or a monthly 3HOUR task...seriously...I was on the road for 25days and when I got back it took me 3 HOURS to scrape off all the dang coralline!!!!! It's only a 55g tank!

Thoughts? Too long of a photo-period? Lower the ALK? Other?

An urchin will etch your acryilic as well, my long spine made about 30 "thumbprints" on my 240g. No problem buffing them out but I got rid of the urchin right away.

I grow almost no coralline in my tank. I never really have. I grow some in my sump, a little on my rocks, a tad near the teeth on my overflows, but that's really it. I don't think it likes my bright leds or my low-ish alk.

This comment probably won't help but that's why I bit the bullet and went to glass.

ultimatemj do you have glass or acrylic?
Like the idea of the urchin , but they sometimes knock over things in display.
If you mess with your tank parameters and go away for 25 day trips you may come back to something more difficult to deal with.
I'd try urchin if you have glass

Acrylic and you are correct about the risk of messing with water parameters without being able to monitor.

At this point I think I am going to reduce the photo-period a bit and get one of the Tunze care magnets.
