Cracked my tank

I almost got my 40br going until I noticed this during my leak test. Is this anyway salvageable? Hoping someone can tell me siliconing it would suffice. Crack is from bulkhead to rim. My friend and I drilled last week and I'm pretty sure we didn't cause it. Tightened bulkhead too much? Stress from pushing in pvc to glue? No idea ugh might just find a RR or stick with my biocubes :(

I would not take chance with just silicon on this. If you did not crack it during drilling, probably you overtightened the bulkhead. This is a weak point now right in the middle and might be too much pressure on this now to hold. It might for a while but I would just replace the tank.

I have a similar crack in my 20G - long. I decided to still use the tank bc the crack goes up away from the bulkhead. (And I have a rider on my homeowners insurance to cover the possible water damage. lol) The safe bet is to go with another tank. I siliconed mine and it has held fine; for now.

No beuno. It will eventually fail maybe 2marrow maybe 2yrs why risk it unless its n basement and u dont care

I would replace tank . Not worth the stress wondering. 40 gallons of saltwater can make a mess..to to mention the livestock you would be putting at risk. Just imagine if she blew when you weren't home one day .

Noooo....wanted to see this up and running. I'd just wait for the next $1 per gallon sale

get a new tank. my petco had the $1/gallon tank sale going on last week. why worry about when you get a brand new cheap.

Check out RC. Guy in Lemont selling a 40 breeder with two glass holes overflow kits

Thanks for the responses guys. I was about to get another 40br until I realized I glued everything so would have to get new bulkheads, etc. I siliconed it and will chance it. This is now going to be in the basement so not too concerned with the floor. I should start a build thread soon!

Good luck, hope it will hold. I saw your post on RC about this issue, funny how opinions are totally different here and there. :)

i would use JB waterweld instead of silicon. I was able to stop a full tank from leaking when I cracked a 20L from bulkhead to bottom rim. It literally bubbled up with water in the weld, but it dried solid and strong. Would have kept it forever if it didn't look like crap. In your case a little on the front and back won't be noticible and I'd say it'll be as strong as glass. IMHO and all that.
