Cricket container overflow box

Has anyone used a cricket container for an overflow box? I have one at home from when I had Veiled Chameleons and Leopard geckos. I was looking at it and thought the lid could stay on and just cut the back half off with a dremel tool. Then use silicone to seal it to the aquarium wall. Behind that have a bulkhead. The lid of it would act as the teeth strainer and would keep cleaners and fish from entering the overflow box.

Probably could use one to make an in-tank refugium too! Could drill some holes on the sides and add a small pump.

I did something similar on my 45 by cutting a HOB overflow box and mounting it. I think the "critter keeper" would be pretty brittle after cutting because they're so thin. I think you might have algae issues too unless you paint it black. (Pics of my hack job are in my 45 build thread below)

I would have to agree. Probably too brittle.

Also. You can buy plexi so cheap at home depot, you can make something that doesnt even need to really be water tight if its the wet side for next to nothing. And you paint it black so the yellowing doesnt even concern you either.

Ended up drilling it and it didn't crack when I put a 2x4 on the under side of the plastic, using it as an in tank refugium in my 25tall. Drilled three sides of the box with holes and a giant cleaning magnet to hold it on the glass of the tank.
