Crocheted Reef

Geno (Cubbies) showed me a picture of a crocheted reef..

It's inspired me to do my own in my free time.
I really enjoy my REAL reef tank, so making one out of yarn with my own hands should be pretty cool! :)
 
I will! I'll post every piece I make.. And then when I'm done I'll post the FINISHED product of my reef!
This will be a great project to get rid of my scrap yarn, too. :)
 
such a cool display of how the mathematical repetition of a pattern can manifest organic shapes. Knitting/crochet is really a great analogue to how corals, and really all living things, grow. DNA is basically knitting a pattern of cell growth (by division/replication) that ends up being a certain shape on the larger scale. You must count several knots or whatever and then change the knot and then count some more and change in a nearly digital way, but it comes out as an organic shape. It's pretty darn cool. My ham hands would most certainly be impaled with one of those dangerous looking harpoons, but I will definitely enjoy watching your progress.

I can't wait to get started. I'm going to start whipping things up after my bag is done.. and before winter hits and the hat making begins. Lol.

Yeah Herbie - I was reading about the crochet reef and how its done. Its so simple, yet complex at the same time. And it is really cool how the stitches almost represent the way things actually grow.

I don't have any premade stuff for sale.. I make it to order. But my turn out time is pretty quick compared to others who ask 2 - 3 weeks.

Instead of an empty tank.. I was thinking about having Brandon put a shelf up in my livingroom to put it on. That way it won't take up floor space, and certain children in my house can't touch it. Lol.

you should make a wire frame in the dimensions of a tank to put it in. like those hipsters who wear empty glasses. :)
 
That's actually not a bad idea at all. Lol. I think I'll do that. I also MIGHT make some fish, and the wire frame will give me something to hang my fishing line from to suspend them in the air!
