Decided to jump in again...

Hi all,

After I dismantled my last tank (during a move) around 8 yrs ago, I toyed with the idea of starting a new one but never wanted to commit. Well, I'm going to do it this time. After MUCH thought I decided I will go with a Biocube 29 (which is curious because I've never been interested in them before). This is the Oceanic version so I'll be upgrading s-l-o-w-l-y as I go along. I have a couple of other expensive hobbies and have to temper myself before I can't afford any of them.

So, I found the tank and stand at the price I wanted to pay. Got 40 lbs of live sand and am picking up some live rock tomorrow, have 20 gals of RO/DI water and 100 gals worth of Reef Crystals. Have ordered 2 new fans for the LOUD fans in the hood and while it's cycling I will order two new lamps for the hood.

For live stock, I'm still planning (reading up on LPS and soft corals) but I know I want some zoas, a plate or two, frog spawn... and I'm still reading. Fish, I want two clowns (because I love them), a raccoon wrasse, a yellow clown goby, and... I'm not sure what else (5 fish, maybe). Inverts - besides the CUC I'm planning on a few ornamental shrimp, to be determined, a brittle star, and... still reading.

I'll start my journal tomorrow, when I get it scaped and watered. Good to have a reason to be here (and time to come out of lurking).

welcome aboard and out of your long break. looking forward to see what you put together during a slow planned build.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to scaping tomorrow and figuring out what my little island is going to look like...

Hi welcome to CR, and welcome back to the best hobby ever! after I sold my 210gal reef I was planning to take a break for a while and after only three days I needed my tank back, five days later I had a 75gal going:-)

Ha ha! I just got it up and noticed right away that I want another shelf rock for my scape. Tomorrow, maybe...

So... I bought my tank used and knew that the Actinic bulb was out. I was going to order a new set of bulbs and somehow ended up with a Kessil A160WE and gooseneck. This is already starting out wrong (as in, EXPENSIVE). Sigh... Bright side? The fans were too loud for me. Now, for a top - screen netting or plexiglas (with some kind of vents for heat escape)?

yes, it hasn't changed. It's still an expensive hobby. I'd go netting. A solid lid would also collect condensation blocking light.

Netting, it is. I'll take a trip to Home Depot tomorrow. I'm going to upload a couple of pics when I get the chance, this evening. I have a large (probably) 18 lb piece of live rock (sadly, it had corals but I had the former owner take them off since my tank has to cycle). Part of me wants to break it up so that I can craft a more interesting scape, but I can see an opportunity to have the corals adorn it in such a way that it could look very beautiful. When I post the pics I'll ask for some suggestions...
