Digital thermometer reading 180

So I took the digital thermometer out of my gf's tank and put it in mine to get a reading. Gf's tank is reading 79 degrees but when I put it in my tank it reads 180!

What would cause that?

Yes it does go back to 79 in the gf's tank. Tried a different one and it's reading 78 in my tank. Haven't tried it in the gf's tank.

At the time I had brand new heater, my return pump and my skimmer going that's it.

I'll have to check for voltage. Can I just stick two leads from a fluke in the water?
