Dipping chaeto?

So, I was thinking about the chaeto ball I just received from another reefer's refugium. In particular, if there are both good and bad hitchhikers!

QT threads never say anything about macro...

I presume any kind of dip would kill the good guys too, no?

Thoughts?

In the meantime, my new chaeto ball is in my QT lol

Yep, any dip will kill the good guys too. If you do dip but need the good guys, you can always buy cultured pods to avoid HHers.

Do you know of a dip that would kill bad guys but not the chaeto?

I'd expect bayer advanced to be safe for cheato, but I've never tried it. It only contains insecticides, so it should be safe for plants. I'd try a small clump first to be cautious.

I soak chaeto in freshwater (kills everything saltwater life). I soak it for several minutes/1 hr

Does this hurt the cheato or cause any dying back? I'm planning to get some soon and the thought of hitchhikers never occurred to me.

No. It's fine with freshwater soak. Cheap too
