DIY floating magnifying thingy

Today I was picking up a few things from my local Ace Hardware and walked past their $1 bin. They had 4" magnifying glass and it sparked an idea. I picked up one and a 4" pvc coupling.

Got home, snapped the handle off the magnifying glass and fit it perfectly in the 4" coupling. A little silicone to seal it up and an 1/8" hole for air to escape the underside. That's it! Total cost 2.99 plus tax. Floats on the surface and does an AMAZING job. The magnification is awsome. It even does a pretty awesome job magnifying through the front glass. Pics to come.

I've been wanting to make one of those dslr camera attachments for taking pictures. This would work but where to get a round piece of glass?
