Diy overflow turned my tank into a waterfall

Ive had this diy overflow on my tank now for about 2-3 months and everything has been fine. Last week it stopped overflowing and turned into a waterfall. Almost did it twice this week but I was standing by it. Then today after cooking out I checked on it and the carpet is filled with water, ato empty, and the overflow is not flowing. My thought is something clogging it or the one way check valve isnt keeping the ail out and is forming an air bubble

Yea got it figured out threw the tank in the backyard and light the broken pieces on fire. Well I actually just took everything out and shut it down. Im going to see if this tank can be drilled on the back. 27 cube from pet smart incase anyone can tell me

I, unfortunately, have an overflow box as well. I attached air hose to the top of the U tubes and run an AquaLifter to ensure the siphon does break. I also have a float switch at the top of the tank to shut of the return pump if the water level gets too high.

I had the same problem. It turned out that the water break was letting air in because the surface of the water was too rough. I wrapped the break with a piece of scouring pad 1/2 way around to act as a "wave breaker" and haven't had problems since. I don't even use one way on my air tubing.

Not sure if this helps but..........

I use a Herbie Overflow design and love it. Failed once in 5 years (my fault, not the design) and my tank is perfectly silent.

Does anyone know if the 27 gallon marineland cube is tempered glass on the sides. Id like to drill it and not have to worry about this unreliable diy overflow of mine

How did you do the float switch. Hows it hooked up? Can I make one or do I have to buy it

The sides on the 27 cube can b drilled. I had mine drilled by runningnreefing on reef central. And he makes the overflow box. U should mp him. See if he can go over to drill it.

He doesn't do it anymore. You can get a nice overflow from glassholes and drill it yourself or have Sho tank do it.

Hmm, not sure what happened to my pics.

Anyway, I have an Apex so the switch is hooked up to it.

If you don't have one, you can get an Top It Off Kit Premium from aquahub.com and use it as a high level shut off.

I run a diy overflow from my fuge into my sump , i run 2 1' drains with a toms aqualifter pulling the air out , been running this for about 6 months with no problems starts/ stops with no issues .

I keep the water level about 2" above the inlet pipe , i too also run a float switch in my fuge and one in my display connected to my apex this way if water gets too high in either place it will shut my main pump off until i manually turn it back on..... If my pump shuts off so will my skimmer , then a 2 minute delay for the skimmer to go back on after the pump ... Works really well

Im just going to drill the tank and not worrk about this problem possibly occurring again

If you go with an 1 1/2 bulk head. I have a bit you can borrow, only used for two holes so far.
