Here are some photos of the tank stand I am working for my Miracles 140. I would say its semi overbuilt. Rather than building with 2x4's which consume lots of space I used 2x2's of red oak (very strong) for the inner frame and then 1" premium pine lumber as the outer skin and a single piece of birch plywood on the rear. Both inner frame and outer shell share the weight of the tank on the edges. While I know I could of just went with a plywood only stand, I like the piece of mind of the inner frame which take up very little space. The framing is a combination of screws and dowels. I also have opening for nice large doors in the front and sides so I can even fit a 40 breeder through. The doors and decorative trim are next.
Hard to tell, but the shell is attach by screw, dowel, screw, dowel pattern.
What I did was use a single 5' long piece of 2x2 oak that went across the length of the stand. I then used that to support the cross braces. A single 4" dowel goes through the 2 pieces and into the vertical leg.
