Hi Guys, new to Chicagoland and the forum. I'm glad I found this site- what a great resource and seems to be full of great folks too !

Does anyone know what this is (2 photos attached). It goes with a nano sized tank and I think it might be small media reactor , or maybe a primitive type of protein skimmer?

Welcome aboard CR.

Interesting peice of gear. It looks like the top section has a cone shape in it and a drain port. If so it might be an old nano protein skimmer. Maybe one of the old timers has a more solid ID.

Thanks jrpark ! its definitely an odd looking little device. I think I'll try to run a pump on it and see how it reacts. If I could sandwich some media with a couple of sponges (and control the gpm flow), I might be able to use it as a makeshift reactor ? I don't expect great results and would happy with marginal improvement to my overall filtration. I'm working out of a nanocube and as you know filtration is always a big issue for these small tanks, so I'm always trying to think creatively.

Welcome and good luck with the nano i tried few time with no luck only time it worked was when it was connected to my big system at least until i cracked it lol

LOL !!! Great thread- looks like I have a backup plan in case I decide not to use it for my tank ! :dog-laugh:

thanks crazyfishlady- much appreciated
