Egg create top

So here is my attempt at an egg create lid.

Not the prettiest thing but it works. The only guy that I think could fit thru would be my jawfish.

Light seems to penetrate better.

I need to build a canopy or something to have my lights higher.

nice!! Looks great. If you're worried about the jawfish, u can try the net tops that people use? The netting was pretty cheap and I just used aluminum window framing to build the tops for my tank.

What lights are those by the way? They look like MH? Be careful of it melting that plastic...

I'm not too worried about the jawfish. I wanted to do mesh or screen but I'm not sure on how to get the bow.

As for the lights. They are 30w led flood lights. I can hold my hand to the surface of the light without any problem.

i tried this, it blocks way too much light, so I went with the screens. However, it would be a real pain to make for a bowfront, you would almost need to someone to fabricate something, or heat and bend one of those frames to the proper curve and size.

I only did the egg crate on the right side right now. The left side is still the glass top. The right side with the egg crate seems brighter.

I ultimately will either build a canopy or have shotank build me one. Then my lights will be hanging.

what about just make the square mesh and only use the egg crate for the part that's bow'd? that little curve won't miss the amount of light that's only blocked up front...

It is a light diffuser that's what it was originally made for. Blocks too much light for me. I tryed it in the past.

I forget who's tank... but I've seen someone's tank where instead of the alum. window frame... Someone used the egg crate to create the frame for the screen mesh... You could do the same... That way where the light goes through the top, it's where the screen mesh is and not egg crate. And you can still acheieve the curve for the bowfront.

You can compare the difference put both the lights on one on top of the glass the other on the egg cRate and see if there is a difference. Ive never had an issue. Also building a canopy would be fairly simple for that tank. Lmk if you want a hand building one less then 100 bucks

Yeah i did that, I only made one egg crate top for now (all I had enough for). The side with the egg crate does seem brighter but I can also see the rays being broke up, gives it a cool effect in my opinion.

As for the canopy, My uncle told me he was going to give me a hand making one. He's been busy with work and so have I. I will talk to him and if he doesn't think he will have time in the near future, I will take you up on that offer.
