What is up bros

Im starting this thread as an area to throw around a few ideas about how effective certain kinds of filtration are. Im going to share some thoughts and im interested to hear what your opinons are or maybe the methods you have tried yourself.

I have a 29G Biocube that I have heavily modded, almost nothing except the tank itself is custom. I run A skimmer and an inTank media basket in the middle chamber. For those of you who arent familiar with inTank here is a link http://shop.mediabaskets.com/Biocube-29-Media-Basket-BC29MR.htm

I only have about 10lbs of LR in the tank which is about 1/3 less than the recommended 1 to 1 1/2 lb per gallon recommendation that seems to be out there. It is my understand that more LR = more surface area for beneficial bacteria that aids in the Nitrogen Cycle in an aquarium.

Without the extra live rock I am using my skimmer and the filter floss that goes in the media basket to attempt to effectively remove waste from the water before it is broken down and begins the cycle. I recall finding online somewhere that a skimmer will only remove 30% of the waste in the water and im going to guess that the filter floss will remove an additional 10-25%(the MP10 surge cycle really helps to push debris into the media basket). Does my 10lbs of LR have a chance at breaking down the rest? I use to have a fuge which I removed to make room for the Skimmer and Media Basket so I am loosing out on that but I run Chemi Pure Elite to compensate. I also recall reading thread on nano-reef.com started on (i believe) reef central about the ineffectiveness of aquarium fuges. Obviously the goal here is to run filtration, either biological or mechanical, that compensates for all aspects of water purification. In addition, having redundancy in you filtration is not an issue either.

Thoughts?
