my frag shelf came with two plugs.....I got a tube of crazy glue and I'm ready......I think I have God of War and purple people paly .....problem is they are on big rocks and I don't want to break them up. I sure would like a plug of each for my small tank. Any help or tip is appreciated.

Use razor blade and get under the matting. Or thin chisel and chip away. Try not to cut the base and try and cut the thinnest part between polyps

You can also use an exacto knife to cut under and between polyps. The pointed blade might give you better control of your cutting.

Be careful not to get any of the ooze in your eyes, mouth, and in my opinion on your skin. Certain zooanthids contain a toxin known as paly toxin. It's nasty stuff be careful

Wear latex or other gloves of some kind. Zoas and Palythoas contain Palytoxin, which can seriously mess you up. I got accidentally poisoned before and as a result keep no more zoas/palys.

I got freaked out enough when I got some all over my face but I ended up being fine. What happened with you?

I've been shot in the eye before by my blue zoas: over my safety glasses. I booked it to the bathroom and washed both eyes out for 15 minutes, and I was fine.

I had some cuts on my hand and moved some zoa colonies around my last tank. They were pretty big and I think I shmushed a few while doing it. Had wicked flu symptoms for the next 2 days immediately after.

Yeah I don't have any in my tanks anymore

Sorry... But I'm a newbie as well when it comes to fragging and moving frags on to rocks... But do they literally squirt the toxin out?!

I moved a frag I got from the frag plug I got it in to a piece of rubble rock today and all I saw was a kind of ooze secreting from the skin of the paly's. sorta similar to the ooze I got from the montipora when I glued it to my rock as well...

I washed my hands a couple times afterward... Was that slimy ooze the toxin?

Nope, that's just slime, though it may contain the toxin. Other zoas will, when cut, shoot out water to make themselves smaller. This may also contain the toxin. With zoas and palys, you never really know, so safety is a must.

Jay's a great guy/fragger but yes, try to cut under the matting/get a bit of rock using a razor of some kind. I find its best to angle the blade downward towards the rock/plug -This usually insures getting under the matting and not risking cutting the stalk of the z/p.

Palytoxin is a real-deal ... I've learned, several times, that i am allergic (lack of better terms) it effects people differently, some not at all, and some z/p are stronger than others. I've had flu-like symptoms for 5+ days before, so I always make sure to wear gloves at the very least, but eye protection is a good idea too.
