float switch question

hey guys I have a question .. i want my rodi to auto fill my resivour so i bought a float switch to tap from the cold water .. ok so that will shut off the clean water when the switch goes up .. how do i shut off the waste water? will I have to do it manually?

There shouldn't be any waste water after the float switch is in the off position. When mine is off no waste water comes out. Where do you plan on running the waste water? I have mine running right into the drain pipe in my basement.

I want to put a fitting into the ptrap of my sink im hoping there is a way to basically shut the whole thing down once the float is up so the waste water isint constantly running

I talked to BRS about this because my dad was having the same issue. They said it might be caused by not enough pressure and dirty filters. We changed his filters out and had the same problem. He's on the same water as me and we haev 70psi coming into our filters. Never did figure it out lol. I assume a faulty valve but i dunno.

I'm pretty sure back when i had mine hooked up it used to stop both waste and clean.

Another reason i want to add one of these to my system.

Set them to run for X amount of time and they shut the water off.

You need an automatic shut off valve(ASOV) if you are using a float switch. If you have one then it is broken. When the output pressure reaches 2/3's of the input pressuse the ASOV cuts off the supply to the membrane so the water doesn't keep going out the waste line.

you need this: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/auto-...systems.html?gclid=CJyPnoKOgLgCFUei4AodKyQA_g

the float puts minimal pressure which can't stop the rodi. the other piece is a solenoid that is activated by back pressure from the float. Hope that help.

I didn't see that my setup had the auto shut off valve already.

yea +1 on the auto shutoff doohickey and a check valve somewhere in the circuit. without the check valve then you get constant waste flow, if im not mistaken.
