Fragging: How To?

So I have a zoo colony I wouldn't mind splitting up. I also have a 7head Hammer Frogspawn I wouldn't mind splitting.

How do you know where it is safe to cut, what do I use to cut, is there a curing chemical or procedure you do to the tissue that has been cut?

BOTH THOSE CORALS ARE EASY TO BREAK OFF OR USE BONE CUTTERS.oN THE ZOAS JUST CUT BETWEEN THE POLYPS AND THE FROGSPAWN CUT BETWEEN THE LIMBS ON THE HARD SKELETON.

They then heal themselves?

Also one small Kenya trees, can I just use a razor blade to cut them off a rock. I have 2 very small trees on 1 small rock. They are beginning to grow into each other so in thinking of taking them off the rock and put each one on a plug.

Watched the video. All his zoos seem larger then mine. The heads on mine are very small, but I have over 200 heads.

The same principles apply.

Zoos are quite resilient. Just cut between the heads, getting as much of the mat as you can and they should be fine.

wear eye protection and gloves (or wash hands well after) when fragging zoas. Some have a toxin that will get you sick. They are known to squirt when you frag them... getting their "juice" in your eye can lead to serious discomfort and a possible trip to the hospital.

"as much of the mat?"

The video shows he cut the stem as low as possible without touching the main base. Is that what you mean by mat? Of do you suggest cutting the base in sections.

I try to get the mat of the coral off the rock. It typically has a tougher base on the bottom and doesn't slime as bad. This helps to glue the frag to the plug as well as increases the growth rate as the mat can continue to spread.

It is completely possible just to snip a polyp off the mat and glue it down, but in my opinion takes longer to get going.

If you can peel the mat off the rock, it makes it easier to simply cut between individual polyps.

Ok. For a small head zoo like I have. How many heads should I try to get per frag.

I've never fragged so I'm learning sizes and what to price them at for sale or trade value.

I wouldn't do any less than 4-5 per frag on the small ones.
I've fragged hundreds, like he said get as much of the mat as possible to ensure survival. I try to cut into the rock under the mat. I also use a dremel. With frag plugs, I cut them in half, not even touching the polyps or mat and have much better success. It's very hard to see the rock, the pic is so small, you may be able to cut under the rock, use a diamond wheel.
