getting "pure" Cheato

Maybe put it in a 5g bucket with a strong PH and a HOB filter. the chaeto will roll, the other crap will fly off and go in the hob. If it's the pink cotton your're trying to eliminate, good luck. I'm pretty sure it is symbiotic with chaeto or something.
 
Are you trying to get all that calurpa and other pest algae out? People have given me bags of chaeto and I've seen other algae in it...and everytime, I have tossed it in the trash. I remember when your algae went asexual overnight. Scary.

I have no idea if there is an easy way to separate it but I doubt there is. Good luck!
 
Mine seems pure. I don't have anything else growing within it; just pods. The only other good algae I've had was ulva but the snails and others eat it up.
 
Will, I once had hair algae and caulerpa growing on my chaeto. I pulled strands apart and rinsed them under running tap water to get the unwanted stuff off. The chaeto was fine and stayed cleaned thereafter.
 
the only thing I get in mine is cyano some times. I don't know why it grows on the cheato
