Gotta love eBay

I have been on the lookout for a Reefkeeper Lite for a while. It amazes me how many used ones sell for $90 or more plus shipping, when you can get a new one for $119 with free shipping. Well, today's listing asking with another takes the cake. $110 used with no PC4. Really? ? ?

I've seen people get into "the spirit of bidding" and pay more than something is worth. eBay used to have commercials promoting bidding as a competition and that you HAVE to win. lol Buyer beware as always I guess.

I love it when I sell stuff on ebay, and someone bids on it immediately negating the buy-it-now price, and then it ends up selling for more than I had it set for.

I always wondered about this, if someone bids higher than the buy it now, does the buy it now option go away, or can someone come in and grab it cheaper?

Generally as soon as someone places a bid, the buy-it-now option goes away. So if you are selling something for $300, and someone bids $100, then the buy-it-now for $300 goes away and anyone interested needs to bid on it.

In a lot of cases, yes it is the bidding wars. Sadly, in this case, the starting price was $110 used with missing parts for something you can buy new for $119.

Is this new? I haven't used e-bay for about 2 years but I remember that as long as the bidding amount was lower than the buy it now amount, you could always buy it now. So if the bids are only at $100, and the buy it now is $300...... you could still end the auction if you paid the buy it now price. It kind of defeats the purpose of it really.

Not sure, they changed a lot of things recently. I went on ebay to sell an old cell phone and I couldn't even set a reserve price like I used to be able to. So I'm not sure how certain things are anymore.
