Hair algae

Hey everyone I have a hair algae problem that I'm having a hard time stopping. The weird thing is I never had a hair algae problem previously. The only thing I can contribute too is the new rock I put into my tank. I moved all my old live rock and few other pieces and got some more dry cured rock and put that in the tank without cooking it.

I run gfo and I've never had a high nitrate or phosphate problem. I don't over feed have good flow. I even cut back on my light cycle to a mere 5 hrs to try to get rid of it but nothing.

So I'm wondering what next is this something that just takes time to get rid of or should I start maybe doing some kind of vodka or another type of carbon dosing. I appreciate any and all ideas.

First, take out the rock (if you can) and cook them with Vinegar or Muriatic Acid and dry it out for few weeks.
Second, buy a lot of Real Mexican Turbo (atleast 20), they will help a lot.
Final, manually pick and clean by hand with lot of water change. Also clean out the sump completely.

Hope it help.

My two cents: get a reactor. That is what I am going to do. Talked to a few folks here and they run two reactors and cleared up their algae.

Up the amount of GFO you are using! How often so you change it?
Not sure on you tank size but get a rabbit fish if you can. They will mow is down for sure.

I got a scopus tang a few months ago and it was a mowing machine...not really any algae left in the tank! Now it inhales brine shrimp like they're going out of style.

I run gfo carbon and have began dosing kalkwasser and vinegar in my ATo. I'm hoping this will start to help clear it up. If not I'm gunna try keeping my mag up around 1600 for a few weeks and see if that works.

A mower would definatly make things easier and faster. But to help control what goes on in your tank, ive learned that you really have to be concious of what new inhabitants you put in. If you have a QT system i always recomend putting new inhabitants in your QT for awhile to see if any infections or algae sprouts off them. If you dont have a QT atleast dip all your corals, thats where i have introduced alot into my tank over the years, no matter how clean someones system looks you just dont know what can be hitchhiking when it gets introduced to your system. Hope everything works out and ive been the slightest help at all and GL clearing that stuff up
